About Us

Esther Elementary Entrance

Joe D. Esther Elementary is a caring, student-focused school that serves all kindergarten and first-grade students in the Lebanon R-III School District. Our goal is to give every child a strong start in both academics and social-emotional growth, setting the foundation for future success. We focus on early reading, math, and building important life skills like communication, critical thinking, and collaboration. Through our district’s “Jacket Code,” we help students grow in integrity, responsibility, and grit while fostering a love of learning. Working closely with families and the community, we create a safe, welcoming place where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

In April 2000, Lebanon R-3 School District voters approved a bond issue to construct a new Pre-K through 1st grade building. Thanks to the generosity of the Esther family, who donated land on the north side of Lebanon, this vision became a reality. The new facility was named Esther Elementary in their honor, recognizing their lasting commitment to education in our community.

For nearly 25 years, Esther Elementary served as the starting point for Lebanon’s youngest Yellowjackets in both Pre-K and early elementary grades. In 2024, Pre-K programs were transitioned to the Robert W. Plaster Center for Student Success, where a state-of-the-art Early Childhood Center was established. Today, Esther Elementary continues its mission by serving kindergarten and first grade students, laying the foundation for lifelong learning.
